Careers

Recent graduates in Communication Studies have pursued a variety of exciting career paths. These include:

  • A Communication Studies major works as an analytical consultant for an advertising firm in New York and focuses intentionally on diverse and wide-ranging representations of underrepresented group members across types of ads.
  • A Communication Studies major and Digital Studies minor works as a market and audience analyst for a large marketing firm in the Chicago area.
  • A student with an Economics major and a Communication Studies minor graduated and became an account executive for ClickFox, analyzing customer data and making recommendations to companies like the Bank of America on how they might improve their customer service.
  • Another who combined his music major with a Communication Studies minor, went on to become an advertising/music executive with Young and Rubicam. 
  • An English/Communication Studies student works in New York City for a digital communication firm.
  • A History/Communication Studies student became an events coordinator for Madison Square Garden.
  • A Political Science major/Communication Studies minor joined UPS as a legislative specialist.
  • An English major/Communication Studies minor works as an associate retail manager for Amazon in Seattle.
  • A Biology major/Communication Studies minor became a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health.

Internships

Students with interdisciplinary minors in communication studies have had internships at Time Magazine, the Charlotte Hornets, The Madison Square Garden Company, InfoMag Publishing, CBS and MTV Networks. They have also had internships with such nonprofit organizations as the Smithsonian Institution, the Georgia Family Council, Hanover Regional Medical Center, and the FARM Institute. Their knowledge of the process of communication aided the attainment of these opportunities.

Graduate School

A number of our recent graduates have pursued additional studies. One popular avenue is law school. Others include nursing, sports administration, and communication. Communication studies helps students see the connections among various aspects of their liberal arts education, and the capstone seminar's creation of persuasive campaign proposals for nonprofit organizations enables them to see theory and research in actionʳɫ¹ÙÍø”valuable preparation for any field of study.
