The ʳɫ¹ÙÍø Mental Health Ambassadors (MHAs) are a group of students who are committed to raising awareness, decreasing stigma, and implementing programming about mental health issues that are specific to the college experience.

Under the guidance of Student Health and Wellbeing, MHA helps carry out Counseling Center initiatives while utilizing the power of peer education and the importance of relationships to develop community events with campus partners, and present on various topics to promote studentsʳɫ¹ÙÍø™ access to support and services on campus. Along with a notable time commitment, this ambassadorship will require students to be equipped with strong communication and organization skills, display a high level of empathy and maturity, and a passion for equity and advocacy in mental health.

New Davidson MHAs will complete required mental health-oriented training within their first year of membership, as well as on-going psychoeducation on various elements of mental health, intersectionality, and wellbeing. 

Training and Programming Initiatives

  • Stress management/Resiliency
  • Healthy relationships
  • Sexual Assault Awareness
  • Diversity, Inclusion & Equity (with a focus on intersectionality)
  • Communication skills and assertiveness/Conflict resolution
  • Anxiety and depression reduction strategies
  • Disordered Eating and Body Image
  • Assist with QPR (Question, Persuade and Refer) Suicide Prevention Program
  • Mental Health screenings and tabling events
  • Collaboration with campus partners to provide unique programming for an identified group, issue, or need in the campus community

Application Eligibility

Applications will open each spring semester. Those who are eligible to apply are:

  • Second semester freshmen, sophomores, juniors, rising seniors (NOT graduating in December) who have a genuine passion for mental healthʳɫ¹ÙÍø”whether formal or informal.
  • Students who are self-motivated and open to collaborative connections campus-wide.
  • Those who have a flexible schedule to prioritize weekly meetings and programming (2-3 hours per week, minimum of 3 outreach programs per semester). Students must commit to not being absent to more than 3 meetings per semester.
  • Those who can commit to a full academic year. Please, only apply if you can fulfill the requirements for both semesters.
  • Those who have and maintain a minimum of 2.8 GPA. For first-year and transfer students, the previous semesterʳɫ¹ÙÍø™s GPA will suffice.
